🤔 Why this matters

One of the easiest ways to avoid wasted effort is to confirm that what you’re working on really matters. Goals can shift without much notice — priorities evolve, new projects emerge, or leadership changes direction. By pausing to check in with your manager, you reduce the risk of misalignment, protect yourself from surprises at review time, and strengthen trust.

When you do this:

1. You gain clarity and security about your top priorities
2. Your manager gets confidence you’re focused on what matters most
3. You signal initiative, professionalism, and strong upward management

🛠 How to do it

Spend some time revisiting your goals + approach your manager to double check. 1. Write down your current goals. If you don’t have formal goals, draft 2–3 priorities you believe are most important right now.

2. Add a check-in to your next 1:1 agenda. Keep it simple: “I want to confirm these are still the right goals — or adjust if priorities have shifted.”

3. Preview your goals in advance. Send a quick message or note so that your boss is prepped for the discussion. “I wanted to take a few minutes to ensure I'm headed in the right direction here’s how I currently understand my goals/priorities — does this still match where I should be focused?”

Use the conversation to realign. Be open to reprioritization. If goals aren’t clear, this is your chance to ask your manager to define or co-create them.
